YOUNGSTAR GALA DINNER WINNERS 2010-2011
The annual Arts/Education, Community and Sport winners for 15 Quest Community Newspaper titles were revealed to a sell-out audience on Saturday night (June 18).
In the highlight of the evening, the overall YoungStar winners in each of those three categories was unveiled along with the Group winners.
The overall Arts/Education award went to Brandon Binnie; the Community award to Matthew Groves; the Sport award to Yolane Kukla and the Group title is now in the hands of sibling band Freak Morice.
They have joined a roll of honour which includes Olympic star Stephanie Rice, Talia Fowler who won Channel 10s “So You Think You Can Dance", and Young Queenslander of the Year Yassmin Abdel-Magied.
A record number of YoungStar nominations were received during the 2010-2011 season - beating the 2009-2010 total.
Now in its eighth year, the YoungStar Awards celebrate the achievements of those aged 8 to 18 in Arts/Education, Community Involvement, Sport and Group achievement.
Such has been the success of these awards, this year the glittering showcase event was moved to one of the region’s biggest venues – the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Almost 600 guests gathered to celebrate 276 finalists for 2010-2011, with YoungStar Awards presented to 45 paper title winners and 8 overall winners in 4 categories.
