Blake Cochrane
Blake has continued the remarkable performances in the pool. The Southern Cross swimmer won the 50m breaststroke multi class gold medal at the Telstra Australian Swimming Championships and was second in the 100m breaststroke multi class.
That booked his place in the Aussie team for the Para Pan Pacific Championships in Canada this year.
In August 2010 he won three gold medals at the IPC (International Paralympic Committee) World Championships in Holland, taking the 100m breaststroke (SB7) and helping the Australian 4x100m freestyle and 4x100 medley relay squads to victory.
Two months later Blake won a bronze medal for the S8 100m freestyle at the Delhi Commonwealth Games.
In between the University of the Sunshine Coast student broke his world record for the S8 B7 class 100m breaststroke, clocking 36.87 seconds at the Australian short course titles.
All that followed 16 gold medals and four world records between May 2009 and April 2010 - a haul that earned Blake our Overall Sport award.
He won two gold medals and one silver medal at the 2010 Short Course World Championships in Brazil taking the SB7 100m breaststroke in a world record time.
Blake won six gold medals at the Can-Am titles and set world records at the Australian Short Course Championships in Hobart lowering the Men's Open MC 50m and 100m breaststroke times.
In April 2011, Blake continued to make a splash in the pool winning a gold and silver medal at the 2011 Australian Championships in Sydney.
Blake is currently training his hardest at the Sunhine Coast in hope of making the 2012 Paralympic Games in London.
