2009 2010 Annual Winners
Overall Winners for 2009 - 2010
SOUTH-EAST Queensland’s reputation as an incubator of talent was reinforced last weekend when 2010 YoungStar award winners were revealed.
The Cheertastic Rock Stars broke new ground for the program after capturing the inaugural Group Award at the Hilton Hotel in Brisbane on Saturday night.
The junior cheerleaders from Deception Bay took the title - and prize money of $5000 for their efforts to win the pom-pom routine and finish third in the stunt section at the top cheerleading competition on the US west coast.
“It’s absolutely amazing,’’ said coach Jessica Edwards after the Cheertastic Rock Stars won the Group award. “The girls have worked really hard all year and we’re really proud of them.’’
Ms Edwards said the Cheertastic Rock Stars would use the cash prize to help fund trips to competitions.
Scarborough swimmer Blake Cochrane took the Sport title following a year in which he won 16 major championship gold medals, world titles and broke four world records including the 100m breaststroke gold at the World Short Course Championships in Brazil in the SB7 category.
“I’m very happy to win. It’s one of those things - if you do the hard work recognition will find you,’’ said Blake.

The Arts/Education award went to Jacqueline Goh, of Carindale, who wrote, illustrated and published A Prickly Situation - an online book on the importance of conservation.
Jacqueline was the only zone winner from outside the US in the international Climate Change Competition, run by the University of Minnesota.
“I’m lost for words and really surprised to win,’’ said Jacqueline on Saturday.
Jenna Shooter, of Kippa-Ring, won the Community award for her dedication to the Redcliffe Surf Life Saving Club, which included 252 hours on patrol last season. Most members would do around 60 hours.
``It has been amazing to be involved in helping others and I am very thankful,’’ said Jenna, ``I am really lucky to be able to help people.’’
